The SIMPSON STRONG TIE HRS416Z is a heavy-duty flat strap used to connect, lap, and reinforce lumber members in wood-frame construction. Formed from 12-gauge steel and finished with a Zmax galvanized coating, it delivers strong resistance to corrosion in exposed and treated-lumber environments. At 3.25 inches wide and 16 inches long, the strap provides substantial bearing surface for fasteners and distributes load across the joint. Each package contains 10 straps, sold as a unit. Structural trades and framing contractors install this strap where code requires a positive lap connection or tension tie between members.
The HRS416Z is suited for residential and light commercial wood-frame applications including floor-to-wall connections, rafter-to-plate ties, and general lumber splicing tasks. Its flat profile allows flush mounting against framing members without the need for special hardware or blocking. The Zmax coating makes it compatible with pressure-treated lumber and suitable for use in damp or high-humidity environments such as crawl spaces, covered porches, and coastal framing projects where standard galvanized straps may corrode prematurely.
Designed as an OEM-style structural connector for standard dimensional lumber framing applications in wood-frame construction.
Installation is typically performed by framers or general contractors as part of structural framing work subject to local building code requirements. Fasten with nails or screws appropriate for the load table and code jurisdiction — refer to the applicable building code or engineered drawings for required fastener schedule. When used with pressure-treated lumber, select fasteners rated for the preservative treatment used. Do not bend or modify the strap in the field, as deformation affects rated load capacity.
