The SIMPSON STRONG-TIE BP1/2HDG is a hot-dip galvanized bearing plate engineered to provide a larger bearing surface than standard cut washers at structural connections. Bearing plates of this type distribute concentrated loads across a wider area, reducing stress on wood, concrete, or masonry substrates at bolt and rod connections. The hot-dip galvanized finish delivers corrosion resistance suitable for exterior, treated-lumber, and high-humidity applications. Structural connectors and hardware installers use these plates where building codes require adequate load transfer at anchor bolt, threaded rod, or post base connections.
Bearing plates are commonly used in light-frame wood construction, post-frame buildings, and concrete or masonry anchorage assemblies. Typical applications include foundation anchor bolt connections, hold-down rod assemblies, and beam-to-post connections where a standard washer provides insufficient bearing area. They are appropriate for both residential and light commercial structural applications where load distribution at a 1/2 inch fastener is required.
Designed as an OEM-style structural hardware component for use with 1/2 inch anchor bolts or threaded rods in residential and light commercial framing and anchorage assemblies.
Installation is typically performed by licensed contractors or structural framers following applicable building codes, including IBC and local structural requirements. Always verify that the bearing plate is fully seated and flush against the substrate before tightening the nut. Do not use impact tools that may damage the galvanized coating at the bearing surface. Where used with pressure-treated lumber, confirm that the HDG coating weight meets the compatibility requirements specified by the treated-wood manufacturer.
