The SIMPSON STRONG TIE BC6Z is an 18-gauge steel post and column base designed for secure attachment of 6-inch by 6-inch wood posts to concrete surfaces. The connector creates a positive mechanical connection between the post and the foundation, eliminating the need for angled nailing or end-grain fastening methods that can split wood or reduce load capacity over time. ZMAX galvanization provides a heavy zinc coating that resists corrosion, making this base suitable for outdoor installations and applications involving pressure-treated lumber. Installation is completed using 16D common nails driven through the pre-punched holes in the connector flanges.
This post base is used in residential and light commercial construction for decks, patio covers, pergolas, carports, and similar above-grade structural framing applications. It is intended for installations where a 6-inch by 6-inch post bears a vertical load and requires a code-compliant connection to a concrete footing or slab. The ZMAX coating makes it appropriate for use in wet or corrosive environments and in direct contact with ACQ, CA, or similar preservative-treated wood products.
Designed as an OEM-style structural connector for use with 6-inch by 6-inch nominal lumber posts in residential and light commercial concrete-anchored framing applications.
Installation is typically performed by framing carpenters or general contractors working to local building code requirements, which may reference ICC standards for connector fastening schedules. Anchor the base plate to the concrete footing using appropriate anchor bolts or epoxy anchors before setting the post. Use only the nail type and quantity specified on the connector label or the manufacturer load table, as substituting fasteners affects the rated capacity. Do not modify, cut, or bend the connector in the field.
