The SIMPSON ELECTRIC 02303 is a donut-style current transformer designed for use with AC panel meters and ammeters. It accepts an AC input of 600 amps and steps that down to a 5 amp AC output signal, making it compatible with standard 5-amp ammeter inputs. The transformer operates across a wide frequency range of 50 to 400 Hz, covering both standard power line frequencies and higher-frequency industrial applications. With a 2 VA burden rating, it delivers a stable, proportional secondary current that allows accurate current measurement without direct connection to high-amperage conductors. Electricians and instrumentation technicians install this transformer as part of panel metering setups in switchgear, motor control centers, and distribution equipment.
The 02303 is suited for commercial and industrial electrical panels where indirect current measurement is required. The donut configuration allows the primary conductor to pass through the center window, eliminating the need to break the circuit for installation. Screw terminal connections on the secondary side simplify wiring to the panel ammeter. This transformer is appropriate for any application where a 600-amp primary and 5-amp secondary ratio is needed, including load monitoring, energy metering, and motor current measurement across a broad frequency range.
Designed for use with AC ammeters as a panel meter accessory. Suitable for panel metering installations requiring a 600-amp primary to 5-amp secondary current transformer with screw terminal output.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). De-energize and lock out the circuit before mounting the transformer or making any secondary wiring connections. The primary conductor passes through the center window of the donut transformer; ensure conductor sizing and routing comply with applicable code requirements. Never leave the secondary terminals open-circuited while the primary conductor is energized.
