The SIGMA 811085612 is a malleable iron reducing coupling designed to connect pipe sections of different nominal sizes within threaded piping systems. Rated at 150 lb, this fitting transitions from a 1/2 inch nominal female connection to a 1/4 inch nominal female connection using FNPT (female national pipe thread) ends on both sides. The galvanized finish provides corrosion resistance suited for general-purpose plumbing and mechanical piping applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this type of fitting in low-pressure piping assemblies.
This reducing coupling is used in residential and light commercial piping systems where a threaded reduction in line size is required. Typical applications include water supply lines, compressed air distribution, and low-pressure gas piping where a 1/2 inch to 1/4 inch size reduction is needed at a threaded connection point. The 150 lb pressure rating makes it suitable for standard service conditions in these system types.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation threaded reducing coupling for 1/2 inch by 1/4 inch nominal FNPT piping systems rated at 150 lb service.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable plumbing codes such as the IPC. Shut off and depressurize the piping system fully before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to all male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten, as malleable iron fittings can crack under excessive torque.
