The SIEMENS smfff2p is a Class SMF fractional horsepower manual motor starter designed to provide both overload protection and manual on-off control for small horsepower motors. Rated for 1 HP at 115-230/277 volts AC single phase and 16 amps continuous, this two-pole starter uses a toggle operator for straightforward switching. Melting alloy SMFH overloads are included to guard against sustained overcurrent conditions. The open enclosure design suits installations where the starter is mounted inside a control panel or enclosure already providing environmental protection. Licensed electricians and industrial maintenance technicians install this class of device.
The smfff2p is suited for single-phase AC motor applications in commercial and industrial settings. Typical equipment includes fans, pumps, conveyors, and small machine tools where a compact, manually operated starter with integrated overload protection is required. The two-pole configuration also supports DC motor applications up to 3/4 HP, expanding its usefulness across mixed-voltage control panels. It is appropriate for both new installations and direct replacement of existing fractional HP starters requiring the same pole count, voltage rating, and overload type.
Designed for use with single-phase AC motors up to 1 HP and DC motors up to 3/4 HP. Compatible with SMFH melting alloy overload units. Suitable for fans, conveyors, pumps, and small machine tool applications in commercial and industrial environments.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes. Disconnect and lock out all power to the circuit before mounting or wiring the starter. The open enclosure requires installation inside a suitable protected enclosure to meet environmental and safety requirements. Verify that the motor nameplate current does not exceed the overload trip rating before placing the starter in service.
