The SharkBite UP120A5 is a 5-pack of poly alloy barb insert to male pipe thread adapters sized at 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch, designed for use with cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) tubing in residential and light commercial plumbing systems. Each fitting features a poly alloy construction and is NSF listed, making it a code-compliant replacement for traditional brass PEX insert fittings. The barb insert end connects directly into PEX tubing when secured with cinch clamps or copper crimp rings, while the male pipe thread end connects to standard threaded fittings. Licensed plumbers and experienced DIYers install these in hot and cold water distribution systems.
These adapters are suited for residential water supply systems using cross-linked polyethylene PEX tubing. They are appropriate in new construction and retrofit applications where a transition from PEX tubing to a threaded connection point is needed, such as at valves, manifolds, shutoffs, and fixture supply lines. The poly alloy material is approved for both hot and cold water service. Once crimped or cinched, fittings can be immediately pressure tested to well over 100 psi, supporting a faster installation workflow.
Designed for use with cross-linked polyethylene PEX tubing. Use with True Value 608-933 cinch clamp and cinch tool True Value 608-743, or with copper crimp rings. Intended as a replacement for brass PEX insert fittings.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before cutting into existing PEX tubing. Proper crimp or cinch tooling is required to achieve a leak-free connection — do not attempt to hand-seat fittings without the correct tool. Pressure test each connection after assembly before closing up walls or concealing piping.
