The SHARKBITE UC008LFA is a 1/2 inch PEX barb coupling manufactured from lead-free DZR brass. It is designed to join PEX tubing in potable water distribution and hydronic heating systems. The barb-style connection is compatible with both stainless steel clamp systems and copper crimp ring systems, giving installers flexibility based on the tools already on the truck. The fitting meets ASTM F1807 and is certified to NSF/ANSI 61 and NSF 372, confirming it is suitable for use in drinking water lines. Plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting during new construction and retrofit work alike.
This coupling is appropriate for residential and light commercial applications wherever PEX tubing is used. Common install scenarios include domestic hot and cold water distribution, radiant floor heating loops, and baseboard hydronic systems. The low-profile barb design keeps the fitting compact in tight spaces such as wall cavities and under-slab penetrations. Because it works with both clamp and crimp ring systems, it integrates into existing PEX infrastructure without requiring a dedicated tool set beyond what most plumbers carry.
Designed for use with 1/2 inch PEX tubing in potable water distribution and hydronic heating applications. Compatible with stainless steel clamp systems and copper crimp ring systems, each sold separately.
Licensed plumbers install PEX barb fittings using either a PEX clamp tool with stainless steel clamp rings or a copper crimp tool with copper crimp rings per the applicable tool and fitting manufacturer instructions. Shut off the water supply and relieve system pressure before cutting into any active line. Confirm that tubing is cut square and free of burrs before seating the fitting to ensure a leak-free connection. Local plumbing codes, including IPC and applicable state amendments, govern pressure testing requirements after installation.
