The SharkBite UA60R100 is a 1/2 inch diameter, 100-foot coil of red PEX-A cross-linked polyethylene tubing engineered for residential and commercial plumbing systems. PEX-A is manufactured using the Engel peroxide method, which produces the highest degree of cross-linking among PEX types and results in superior flexibility and shape memory. The tubing weighs 5.45 pounds per coil. Its flexibility reduces the number of fittings required on a run, which lowers material cost and minimizes potential leak points. The red color coding indicates hot-water service, helping installers quickly identify line function during rough-in and service calls.
This tubing is suited for potable water distribution, hydronic radiant heating, and general plumbing rough-in in both residential and light commercial construction. The flexibility of PEX-A allows it to navigate around framing and through bored holes with minimal bends and elbows. Its corrosion resistance makes it appropriate for use in areas where copper is susceptible to pinhole failure due to aggressive water chemistry. The 100-foot coil length is practical for whole-house water distribution layouts and slab or subfloor radiant loops.
SharkBite UA60R100 PEX-A tubing is compatible with PEX F-1960 expansion fittings, EvoPEX fittings, and PEX F-1807/2159 crimp and clamp-style fittings as stated by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and ASTM F876/F877 standards. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the system before cutting into any existing lines. Use a dedicated PEX cutter to ensure clean, square cuts — avoid sawing, which leaves burrs that can compromise fitting seals. When using expansion-style connections, allow the fitting joint to recover fully before pressurizing the system.
