The SHARKBITE UA412A5 is a PEX-A polyphenylene (poly) expansion tee fitting designed for use with PEX-A pipe in potable water distribution systems. Sold as a 5-pack, each fitting measures 3/4 inches by 3/4 inches by 1/2 inches and uses the expansion-ring connection method for a secure, watertight joint. Installation requires a compatible PEX expansion tool and matching expansion rings. The fitting material expands during installation and contracts back around the pipe, creating a connection that increases in holding strength over time. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers for this type of fitting in residential and light commercial plumbing work.
The UA412A5 is approved for potable water service lines and is rated for direct burial applications, including encasement in concrete. This makes it well suited for underground supply runs, slab penetrations, and in-wall rough-in work where long-term joint integrity is critical. Because this is a PEX-A expansion fitting, it is not compatible with PEX-B or PEX-C pipe or with push-to-connect or crimp-ring systems. Each fitting in the 5-pack is identical, making this an efficient option for jobs requiring multiple tee connections of the same size.

Installation must be performed using a proper PEX-A expansion tool and correctly sized expansion rings — do not attempt to install without expansion tooling. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before beginning work. Follow all applicable local plumbing codes and ASTM F1960 standards for expansion-style PEX-A fittings. Allow adequate time after expansion before pressurizing the line, as the fitting requires time to fully contract around the pipe for a complete seal.
