The SGS PRO 12853 is a tungsten carbide abrasive bur in a ball head shape, designed for aggressive material removal in metalworking and fabrication applications. It conforms to industry specification SD-53 and features a double cut tooth style for efficient chip clearance and smooth surface finish. The bur measures 0.1875 inches in cutting diameter with a 1/8-inch shank and an overall length of 1.5 inches. It is rated for a maximum of 75,000 RPM, making it compatible with high-speed die grinders and rotary tools. Machinists, fabricators, and maintenance technicians use this bur for deburring, shaping, and blending work across a range of metals.
This bur is suited for use on steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, titanium, nickel, copper, and copper alloys. It fits standard 1/8-inch collet die grinders and is well suited for precision deburring, porting, and contour finishing in tight spaces where larger tooling cannot reach. The ball shape allows for concave surface work, chamfering, and internal radius blending. It is commonly used in metal fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments requiring consistent, repeatable material removal.
Designed for use with die grinders and rotary tools fitted with a standard 1/8-inch collet. Compatible materials include steel, hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, titanium, nickel, copper, and copper alloys per SD-53 specification.
Install the shank fully into the collet of a die grinder or rotary tool before tightening. Verify that the tool's RPM rating meets or exceeds the load requirements without exceeding the 75,000 RPM maximum rated speed of this bur. Always wear appropriate eye protection and ensure the workpiece is securely clamped before operation. Inspect the bur for chips or damage before each use and replace if cutting edges are worn.
