The SGS PRO 12515 is a solid carbide double cut abrasive bur in the SD-3 ball head configuration. It is designed for aggressive material removal and fine finishing across a wide range of metalworking and fabrication tasks. The ball head shape allows access to curved surfaces, contoured profiles, and internal radii where flat or cylindrical tools cannot reach. With a 3/8 inch cutting diameter and a 1/4 inch shank, this bur mounts directly into standard die grinders and rotary tools. The TiN coating improves surface hardness and extends cutting life compared to uncoated carbide. Machinists, tool and die workers, and fabricators use this bur for deburring, porting, blending welds, and shaping ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
The 12515 is suited for use in metalworking shops, maintenance and repair operations, and fabrication environments where precision material removal is required. The double cut tooth style generates a smooth finish while still removing material efficiently, making it appropriate for both roughing passes and final blending work. The 1/4 inch shank is the most common size accepted by pneumatic die grinders and corded rotary tools found in production and field service settings. Licensed tradespeople and skilled machinists working on components, molds, castings, and weld seams will find the ball shape particularly useful for reaching confined or contoured work areas.
Designed for use with die grinders and rotary tools accepting a 1/4 inch shank collet. Conforms to SD-3 industry specification for ball style carbide burs.
Installation is performed by machinists or fabricators using a die grinder or rotary tool with a properly sized collet. Ensure the tool is powered off and disconnected from its air or electrical supply before inserting or removing the bur. Tighten the collet nut to the grinder manufacturer's specified torque range and confirm the shank is fully seated before operation. Always wear appropriate eye protection and ensure workpiece is secured before engaging the bur.
