The SGS 77184 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for demanding material removal in professional machining environments. Built on the Series 77 platform, it features a 0.5 inch (1/2 inch) mill diameter, a 1.5 inch length of cut, and a 3.5 inch overall length, placing it in the long-reach category. The seven-flute, variable-helix spiral geometry combined with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating delivers efficient chip evacuation and extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. Micrograin carbide substrate adds rigidity and wear resistance. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers in job shop and production environments.
The SGS 77184 is suited for milling operations on a wide range of materials, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, aluminum alloys, high-temp alloys, and titanium, consistent with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The long-series configuration supports applications requiring extended reach into deep pockets, slots, or stepped features. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction make this a standard-orientation tool compatible with conventional CNC machining center spindles. The straight cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance ensures accurate seating in standard end mill holders and collet chucks.
Designed for use in standard 1/2 inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and hydraulic toolholders with straight cylindrical bore. Compatible with workpiece material codes H (hardened steel), K (cast iron), M (stainless steel), N (non-ferrous), P (steel), and S (high-temp alloys and titanium) as specified by SGS Series 77 tooling guidelines.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the CNC control placed in an e-stop or locked-out state per applicable shop safety procedures. Seat the straight cylindrical shank fully into the toolholder and torque retention screws or collet nuts to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before production cuts. Because this is a non-centercutting end mill, avoid direct axial plunge — use ramping or helical entry toolpaths instead.
