The SGS 70488 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for demanding material removal in production machining environments. Built on the Series 63 platform, it features a 1 inch cutting diameter, 2.25 inch length of cut, and a 5 inch overall length with a 1 inch straight-cylindrical shank. The micrograin carbide substrate is finished with AlTiN coating for extended tool life in high-heat applications. A 38-degree helix angle and variable index geometry promote chip evacuation and reduce chatter. This is a center-cutting, right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool suited for milling, slotting, and profiling operations.
The SGS 70488 is classified as a long-series end mill, making it appropriate for applications requiring extended reach into deep pockets or tall workpiece features. It is suited for cutting steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys corresponding to material groups H, K, M, P, and S. Typical use cases include die and mold work, aerospace component machining, and general production milling on CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers. This tool is installed and changed by machinists and CNC operators following standard toolholder torque and runout procedures.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and milling machines with standard toolholders accepting a 1 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for cutting material groups H, K, M, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Install in a compatible toolholder - collet chuck, hydraulic chuck, or shrink-fit holder - sized for a 1 inch shank diameter. Verify runout at the cutting edge before production use; excessive runout will accelerate edge wear and reduce surface finish quality. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing tooling. Follow the machining center manufacturer and toolholder manufacturer specifications for clamping force and torque.
