Built on the Series 63 platform, it features a 0.750 inch mill diameter, a 2.25 inch length of cut, and a 5.0 inch overall length on a 0.750 inch straight-cylindrical shank. The micrograin carbide substrate delivers hardness and edge retention that high-speed steel cannot match. An AlTiN coating provides oxidation resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting temperatures. The variable index geometry reduces chatter and harmonic vibration, making this an end mill suited to aggressive material removal in ferrous and exotic alloy programs. The SGS 70486 is designed for milling in ISO workpiece material groups H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon steels, and high-temperature alloys. The long flute length of 2.25 inches accommodates deep shoulder milling, slotting, and profiling operations where standard-length end mills fall short. Its centercutting geometry allows plunge entry when the tool path requires it, giving programmers flexibility in approach strategy without requiring a separate roughing step.
