The SGS 70481 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding machining environments. It features a 7/16 inch (0.4375 inch) cutting diameter, a 3 inch length of cut, and a 6 inch overall length, making it well-suited for deep-reach applications. The four-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 38-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting at elevated feed rates. An AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life when cutting hard or abrasive materials. The micrograin carbide substrate adds toughness and edge retention. This tool is centercutting, allowing direct plunge entry into the workpiece.
The SGS 70481 is intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills where extra-long reach is required. Its primary workpiece material designations include ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon steels, and superalloys. Variable index flute spacing helps reduce harmonic vibration during deep-pocket milling, side milling, and profiling operations. The straight cylindrical shank with a shank diameter tolerance of +0.00000/-0.00035 inches ensures secure tool holding in collet chucks and end mill holders.
Rated for ISO workpiece material groups H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys. Straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard collet chucks and end mill holders accepting 7/16 inch shank diameter tooling.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the tool from the holder. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder and torque retention hardware per the tool holder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning the cut, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear on carbide tooling.
