The SGS 70471 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. Built to Series 63 specifications, it features a 1/8 inch diameter, a 1 inch length of cut, and a 3 inch overall length, classifying it as an extra-long configuration. The four-flute, right-hand spiral design with a 38-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. An AlTiN coating increases surface hardness and heat resistance, making this tool well suited for interrupted cuts and high-speed passes in tough materials. Micrograin carbide construction provides the edge retention and rigidity needed for tight-tolerance work.
This end mill is designed for machinists and toolroom operators working in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and stainless steels. It is centercutting, which allows for direct plunge entry. The variable index geometry reduces harmonic vibration during long-reach operations. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and pocketing in CNC machining centers and manual mills where a small-diameter, long-reach tool is required to access confined features or deep pockets.
Compatible with workpiece materials designated under SGS material codes H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys. Accepts any standard collet, end mill holder, or shrink-fit toolholder with a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical bore.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists using a properly sized collet or end mill holder rated for the 1/8 inch straight shank. Ensure the spindle and all toolholding components are clean and free of runout before securing the tool. Verify that the machine spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before engaging the cut. Observe the mill diameter tolerance of plus 0.000 / minus 0.002 inches when selecting this tool for tolerance-critical operations.
