The SGS 70462 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision finishing operations in demanding machining environments. It features a 0.625-inch cutting diameter, a 2.25-inch length of cut, and a 4-flute geometry with a 45-degree high-helix spiral flute configuration. The cutting edges are finished with an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating, which improves heat resistance and tool life when machining hard or abrasive materials. The micrograin carbide substrate provides the edge toughness needed for consistent performance at high surface speeds. This tool is intended for use by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop settings.
The SGS 70462 is suited for finishing passes on ferrous and non-ferrous alloys, including materials classified under ISO material codes H, K, M, P, and S. These include hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon steels, and superalloys. The long-series profile, with a 5.0-inch overall length and 2.25-inch length of cut, allows for deeper cavity and contour work in molds, dies, and complex 3D profiles. It is a single-end tool with right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction, standard for most vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers.
Compatible with ISO material classifications H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys. Designed as an OEM-specification solid carbide ball end mill within the SGS Series 7B long-series end mill family.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked before installing or removing any cutting tool. Seat the 0.625-inch shank securely in a properly sized collet, shrink-fit holder, or end mill holder; do not exceed the holder manufacturer's runout tolerance. Verify tool stick-out and length of cut clearance before beginning the cutting cycle to prevent tool-holder interference with the workpiece or fixture.
