The SGS 70459 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling operations in demanding metal-cutting environments. With a 0.5-inch mill diameter, 2-inch length of cut, and a 45-degree high helix angle, this tool delivers efficient material removal and clean surface finishes in finishing applications. The four-flute, single-end geometry combined with an AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life when cutting hard and abrasive workpiece materials. The micrograin carbide substrate adds toughness and wear resistance. This end mill is used by machinist and tooling professionals in production shops and job shops running CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers.
The SGS 70459 is suited for finishing operations across a range of workpiece material categories including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, P, and S. Its long-series classification and 4.5-inch overall length make it well suited for deeper cavities and extended-reach setups where a standard-length end mill would not reach. The variable index flute spacing helps reduce harmonic chatter during cut, improving surface finish quality in finishing passes.
Designed for use with standard 1/2-inch collet or end mill holder tooling on CNC machining centers. Compatible workpiece material categories include hardened steels (H), cast irons (K), stainless steels (M), carbon and alloy steels (P), and superalloys (S) as specified in the SGS Series 7B product line data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the 0.5-inch shank fully into a matched collet or end mill holder and torque the retention device per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts.
