The SGS 70450 is a single-end ball end mill designed for precision finishing operations in demanding machining environments. Built from micrograin solid carbide, it offers the hardness and wear resistance needed for high-speed cutting in difficult materials. The 0.3125-inch diameter cutting head, combined with a 4-flute geometry and 45-degree high helix angle, promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. The AlTiN coating provides thermal protection and oxidation resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. With a long-series classification and 1.125-inch length of cut, this tool handles deeper slot and contour work that shorter end mills cannot reach. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, aerospace, and precision manufacturing use this tool for finish passes in ferrous and exotic alloys.
The SGS 70450 is suited for finishing applications in a wide range of workpiece materials including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, titanium, and high-temperature alloys, as indicated by its primary material codes H, K, M, P, and S. The 3-inch overall length and 5/16-inch shank diameter make it compatible with standard ER and end mill holders used on CNC machining centers and mills. The variable index design reduces harmonic vibration during cutting, supporting tighter tolerances and improved surface quality on contoured and profiled features.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills with standard ER collet chucks or end mill holders accepting a 5/16-inch shank diameter. Suitable for finishing passes in hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, titanium alloys, and high-temperature alloys.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and powered down before tool changes. Ensure the shank is clean and fully seated in the holder to the recommended engagement depth before tightening. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping; excessive runout will accelerate tool wear and degrade surface finish quality.
