The SGS 68310 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision hole-making in hard and abrasive materials. It features an AlTiN (Ti-NAMITE-A) coating that improves heat resistance and extends tool life in demanding machining environments. The 118-degree four-facet point provides accurate self-centering entry and reduces the need for center drilling on most setups. With a micrograin carbide substrate and web-thinned, tapered web construction, this bit handles tougher materials and tighter tolerances than standard high-speed steel alternatives. It is used by machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople in production and job-shop settings.
The SGS 68310 is suited for drilling ferrous and non-ferrous metals, hardened steels, cast iron, and similar difficult-to-machine materials where standard steel bits underperform. The right-hand cut, regular spiral flute design promotes consistent chip evacuation. This bit conforms to DIN 338 standards and falls within the Series 101 general-purpose solid carbide family. It is sized at 3.10 mm (0.122 inches) diameter with a straight cylindrical shank, making it compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders of matching bore size.
Designed as a general-purpose solid carbide jobber drill bit for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held drilling equipment equipped with a chuck or collet sized to accept a 3.10 mm (0.122 inch) straight shank.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with cutting tool setup and speeds-and-feeds selection for carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a properly sized collet or drill chuck before operation, and confirm runout is within acceptable limits to avoid premature tip breakage. Carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed adjustments, or dropping the bit on hard surfaces. No coolant-through capability is present on this bit; use external coolant or cutting fluid as appropriate for the workpiece material.
