The SGS 66654 is a solid carbide taper length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in a wide range of materials. Built to DIN 6537 specification, this bit features a 135-degree split point, spiral flute geometry, and a Ti-NAMITE-X (TX) coating that extends tool life in demanding applications. The 7.8 mm diameter cutting edge is ground from micrograin carbide, delivering the rigidity and edge retention needed for tight-tolerance work. Overall length is 5-19/32 inches with a 76 mm flute length, giving machinists the reach required for deeper-hole applications without sacrificing stiffness. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed production runs where chip evacuation and heat management are critical.
This drill bit is suited for production machining, tool rooms, and job shops working in steel, stainless, aluminum, cast iron, and other universal materials. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification. The Series 142P geometry with an 8xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes it a practical choice for machinists drilling taper-length holes in both manual and CNC machine setups where consistent hole quality and repeatable tool life are required.
Designed as a taper length replacement drill bit for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes accepting a straight cylindrical shank in standard drill chucks or collet holders. Suitable for universal material applications per manufacturer designation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Confirm the shank seats fully and is clamped to the tool holder or chuck manufacturer torque specification before operation. Inspect the cutting edge for chips or coating damage before each use, and verify coolant-through lines are clear and properly connected when using the internal coolant feature.
