The SGS 66647 is a taper length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide with a TX coating, it delivers extended tool life and wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel bits. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements. At 23/64 inch (0.2795 inch decimal) in diameter with a 2.99-inch flute length and a 5-19/32-inch overall length, this bit fits applications where a longer reach is needed beyond what a jobber-length drill provides. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and heat control during deep-hole operations.
This drill bit is suited for universal material applications including steel, cast iron, stainless, aluminum, and engineered alloys. The Series 142P taper length format is commonly used in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mill setups where extended reach into a workpiece is required. The cylindrical shank seats in standard drill chucks or collet systems. With an 8xD flute-to-diameter ratio, it is built for holes up to approximately 2.99 inches deep. A web-thinned geometry reduces cutting force and improves hole-entry performance across material types.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use solid carbide taper length drill bit for universal material applications per Series 142P. Compatible with standard cylindrical-shank drill chucks and collet holders accepting an 8.00 mm (0.315 inch) shank diameter.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with cutting tool safety practices. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the bit. Verify chuck or collet runout is within acceptable limits before use, as excessive runout accelerates carbide wear and can cause bit breakage. When using the coolant-through feature, confirm coolant pressure and flow rate are appropriate for the machine and material before commencing the cut.
