The SGS 66637 is a solid carbide taper length drill bit in the Series 142P line, engineered for high-performance drilling across a wide range of materials. It carries a 9/16 inch diameter with a 135-degree split point and a Ti-NAMITE-X (TX) coating that extends tool life in demanding applications. The right-hand spiral flute geometry and web-thinned point reduce thrust and improve chip evacuation. Coolant-through capability makes this bit well-suited for deep-hole work where heat and chip buildup are concerns. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and precision metalworking shops are the primary users of this drill.
The SGS 66637 is designed for universal material applications including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous alloys. With an 8xD flute-length-to-diameter ratio and a 5-63/64 inch flute length, it handles taper-length drilling where standard jobber bits fall short. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders commonly found on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills. This bit conforms to DIN 6537 specification, making it interchangeable with other tooling built to that standard.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use taper length drill bit for machining applications requiring a 9/16 inch diameter solid carbide bit conforming to DIN 6537; fits standard straight cylindrical chuck and collet systems with a 1-7/8 inch shank length.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel familiar with carbide tooling. Ensure the machine spindle and chuck or collet are clean and free of runout before seating the shank to prevent premature edge chipping. When using coolant-through capability, verify that coolant pressure and flow rate are set to the machine and tool manufacturer recommendations before starting the cut. Solid carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel — avoid side loads and interrupted cuts unless the setup is rigid.
