The SGS 66540 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built to DIN 6537 specification, it carries a Ti-NAMITE-X coating that extends tool life and reduces heat buildup at the cutting edge. The 135-degree split point minimizes walking and reduces thrust force at entry. With a 6.70 mm diameter and 3.58-inch overall length, this drill is sized for precision hole-making in close-tolerance machining environments. It is installed and operated by machinists and toolroom technicians running CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes.
The 66540 is designed for production and maintenance machining applications where tool longevity and dimensional accuracy are priorities. Its web-thinned geometry and spiral flute design promote chip evacuation in deeper cuts. Coolant-through capability supports elevated feed rates and extended run times in materials that generate significant heat. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly into standard drill chucks or collet holders without adapters, making it compatible with a wide range of spindle configurations found in general metalworking shops.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber drill for use in standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 8.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank, consistent with Series 142P tooling configurations.
This drill bit is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a calibrated chuck or collet holder before operation and verify runout with a dial indicator when tolerance is critical. Engage coolant-through supply before beginning the cut to protect the cutting edge and promote chip evacuation. Do not exceed the maximum drilling depth of 23.00 mm in a single pass without retracting to clear chips.
