The SGS 66418 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with Ti-NAMITE-X, it delivers extended tool life and thermal resistance under demanding cut conditions. The 135-degree split point reduces thrust and minimizes walking on entry without a center punch. At 2.5984 inches overall length with a 1.1024-inch flute length, this stub-length geometry provides superior rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machine applications where deflection must be minimized.
The SGS 66418 fits production machining environments where tight tolerances and consistent hole quality are required. Wire size 12 corresponds to a diameter of 0.1890 inches (4.80 mm), placing it in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch size range. The straight-cylindrical shank at 0.2300 inches diameter seats securely in standard drill chucks and collet systems. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, composites, and plastics where chip evacuation and heat control are critical. This bit is installed and operated by machinists, toolroom technicians, and precision fabricators.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and production cutting tool for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines accepting a 0.2300-inch straight-cylindrical shank; suitable for universal workpiece materials per manufacturer designation.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle and chuck or collet are fully de-energized and at a complete stop before inserting or removing the bit. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully into the chuck or collet and verify concentricity before engaging coolant-through supply lines. Do not exceed the manufacturer-rated drilling depth of 1.1024 inches per pass without clearing chips.
