Product Description

The SGS 63206 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. Built from solid carbide and coated with AlTiN (Ti-NAMITE-A), this bit handles alloy steels and titanium where high-speed steel tools fail. The 145-degree notched point initiates cuts quickly and reduces thrust load. At 17.00 mm (0.6693 inches) in diameter with a 4.8425-inch overall length, it fits standard drill chucks and CNC machining centers. Right-hand cut, two-flute regular spiral geometry promotes chip evacuation in short, screw machine length applications. Intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job-shop environments.

This bit is suited for drilling alloy steels and titanium in screw machine, CNC turning center, and drill press setups where stub-length rigidity is required. The screw machine length format reduces deflection compared to jobber-length bits, making it appropriate for close-tolerance bores in production runs. A straight shank at 18.00 mm (0.7087 inches) in diameter seats securely in standard ER collets or drill chucks. Maximum recommended drilling depth is 51.00 mm, consistent with the 3xD flute-by-diameter ratio of this Series 135M design.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction for superior hardness and wear resistance in ferrous and exotic alloys
  • AlTiN (Ti-NAMITE-A) coating reduces heat at the cutting edge during high-speed operations
  • 145-degree notched point lowers entry thrust and improves self-centering on flat and curved surfaces
  • Web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces cutting resistance and improves chip flow
  • Screw machine length body increases rigidity and minimizes runout compared to jobber-length alternatives
  • Two-margin straight shank design compatible with standard ER collet systems and drill chucks

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement and direct fitment for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines accepting a straight shank with an 18.00 mm (0.7087-inch) shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer are alloy steel and titanium.

Installation Notes

Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with cutting tool selection and machine tool operation. Before mounting, ensure the spindle is fully powered down and locked out per facility LOTO procedures. Verify collet or chuck bore matches the 18.00 mm shank diameter to prevent runout. Do not exceed the 51.00 mm maximum drilling depth without retracting to clear chips, as this bit does not feature coolant-through capability.
