The SGS 63184 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding shop and production environments. It measures 8.80 mm (0.3465 inches) in diameter with a 145-degree notched point angle that reduces thrust and improves centering on entry. The bit carries a Ti-NAMITE-A AlTiN coating for heat resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting speeds. The overall length is 89.00 mm (3.5039 inches), making it suited for close-quarters or turret-mounted setups. This bit is installed and run by machinists and tool-room technicians on CNC drill presses, machining centers, and screw machine setups.
This drill bit is built for cutting alloy steels and titanium, materials that generate significant heat and tool wear. The screw machine length format keeps the drill compact and rigid, reducing deflection in short-hole applications. The straight shank at 10.00 mm (0.3937 inches) diameter fits standard collet chucks and drill holders. Maximum recommended drilling depth is 35.00 mm with the 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio providing reliable chip evacuation in blind and through-hole operations at production feed rates.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct tooling selection for production drilling operations requiring a screw machine length carbide drill in the 0.3000 to 0.3500 inch diameter range, Series 135M.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling requirements. Secure the straight shank fully in a matched collet or drill chuck rated for the spindle RPM in use before starting the machine. Carbide tooling is brittle — avoid side loads, interrupted cuts without proper parameters, or re-chucking on worn holder bores. Verify machine RPM and feed rate are set to values appropriate for the workpiece material and drill diameter before engaging the cut.
