The SGS 58073 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit sized at Letter N (0.302 inches diameter) with a 150-degree split point and an AlTiN (Ti-NAMITE-A) coating. Built from micrograin solid carbide, it delivers the hardness and edge retention required for drilling cast iron, hardened steel, carbon steel, and non-ferrous metals. The three-flute, right-hand spiral design improves chip evacuation and reduces chatter compared to standard two-flute bits. With a 3.75-inch overall length and a web-thinned, tapered web construction, this bit is suited for production drilling environments where hole quality and tool life are critical priorities. It is manufactured to DIN 6539 standards and carries a Series 103 designation.
This drill bit is used in machine shop, fabrication, and maintenance environments where tight-tolerance holes are required in hard or abrasive workpiece materials. Typical applications include CNC drilling, manual mill work, and drill press operations on cast iron components, hardened steel fixtures, and non-ferrous stock. The AlTiN coating improves heat resistance at the cutting edge, making the bit well-suited for dry or minimal-lubrication drilling at higher spindle speeds. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills equipped with standard straight-shank drill chucks or collet systems accepting a 0.302-inch shank. Rated for primary workpiece materials including cast iron, hardened steel, non-ferrous metal, and general-purpose steel.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Secure the straight cylindrical shank firmly in a drill chuck or collet holder to the appropriate runout specification before operation. Ensure spindle speed and feed rate are set per the tooling manufacturer recommendations for the workpiece material and drill diameter. Inspect the cutting edges and coating condition before each use; carbide is brittle and may chip if subjected to impact or side-loading.
