The SGS 56491 is a taper length, solid carbide drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding applications. Built to DIN 6537 specification, it features a 135-degree split point, spiral flutes, and a Ti-NAMITE-X (TX) coating that extends tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The straight cylindrical shank measures 1-49/64 inches in length and fits standard drill chucks. With a diameter tolerance held to +0.00028 to +0.00098 inches, this bit delivers consistent hole quality suited for precision work. Coolant-through capability supports high-feed and deep-hole drilling cycles where heat management is critical.
The SGS 56491 is intended for universal material applications including steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous alloys. The 8xD flute-length-to-diameter ratio makes it appropriate for moderate-depth holes requiring chip evacuation and dimensional accuracy. It is commonly used in CNC machining centers, manual drill presses, and production environments where repeatable results are required. Web thinning reduces entry thrust and improves centering, making it practical for interrupted cuts and cross-drilled hole patterns. The micrograin carbide substrate supports the higher speeds and feeds that production machinists and tool-and-die shops expect from a solid carbide series bit.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide replacement drill for CNC machining centers and production drilling setups requiring a straight cylindrical shank taper length bit in the 23/64-inch diameter class.
Installation and use of solid carbide drill bits should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with cutting tool safety. Secure the cylindrical shank fully in a collet or keyed chuck before operation, and verify runout before beginning a drilling cycle. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before changing or inspecting the bit. Avoid side loading or prying with the drill, as solid carbide is brittle and susceptible to chipping under lateral force.
