The SGS 56428 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in a wide range of workpiece materials. It measures 0.5000 inches in diameter with an overall length of 4.2126 inches and features a 137-degree drill point angle for aggressive, centered starts. The carbide substrate is micrograin grade, and the bit carries a proprietary coated finish to support tool life and chip evacuation. With a right-hand cut, regular spiral flute geometry, and web-thinned point, this bit is built for production-level performance in machine shop, manufacturing, and industrial maintenance environments. Two flutes and four margins maintain bore accuracy and surface finish through the full cut depth of 2.3622 inches.
This drill bit is suited for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machine setups where short, rigid tooling is required. The screw machine length profile reduces overhang and deflection compared to jobber-length bits, making it preferred in tight-clearance fixtures and high-feed applications. The straight cylindrical shank seats directly into standard drill chucks or collets. Coolant-through capability allows internal delivery of cutting fluid, extending tool life and supporting chip removal when drilling deep holes in hard or abrasive materials. The Series 142P design follows DIN 6537 specification.

Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or tool-and-die technicians familiar with carbide cutting tools. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the bit from any holder. Carbide tooling is brittle and should not be dropped or used to pry; inspect the cutting edges and flutes for chips or cracks before each use. Verify coolant-through connections are secure and flow is confirmed before initiating a drilling cycle.
