The SGS 56127 is a straight-flute drill bit engineered for demanding metal-cutting applications in production and maintenance environments. Built from micrograin solid carbide and left uncoated, it features a 140-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned tip geometry that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation at entry. The cutting diameter is 0.4200 inches (27/64 inch nominal), with a diameter tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches. Right-hand cutting direction with 2 flutes. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and industrial maintenance mechanics are the primary installers. It conforms to DIN 6539 standards and is sold individually.
This drill bit is suited for drilling cast iron, hardened steel, and general steel workpieces, as well as hardened materials classified as secondary workpiece materials. Its 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and web-thinned point make it appropriate for short to medium depth holes in rigid setups such as milling machines, CNC machining centers, and drill presses where runout is controlled. The Series 106 designation places it in SGS's catalog line for precision carbide straight-flute tooling.
Designed for use in rigid machine tool setups including CNC machining centers and drill presses where straight-flute carbide tooling in the 27/64 inch diameter range is specified for cast iron, steel, and hardened steel workpieces.
Straight-flute carbide drill bits must be run in rigid, vibration-free setups — avoid use in handheld drills, as carbide is brittle and will fracture under lateral loading. Verify spindle runout is within acceptable limits before use to protect the tight diameter tolerance. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or coolant externally, as this bit does not have through-coolant capability. Handle carbide tooling carefully during storage and changeover to prevent chipping of the cutting edges.
