The SGS 56125 is a straight-flute, solid carbide drill bit designed for precision hole-making in ferrous and hardened materials. Built to DIN 6539 standards, it features a 25/64 inch (0.3906 inch decimal) diameter with a 140-degree standard point and web-thinned tip geometry that reduces entry thrust and walking. The micrograin carbide construction delivers the edge retention needed when drilling cast iron, hardened steel, and other demanding workpiece materials. Right-hand cutting direction and a bright, uncoated finish make it straightforward to inspect for wear. This bit is a shop staple for machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance pros working with ferrous alloys.
The SGS 56125 is suited for production and maintenance drilling applications where tight tolerances and edge stability matter. Its 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and 1-7/8 inch flute length support clean chip evacuation in short-to-medium depth holes up to 1 inch deep. The straight-flute design makes it especially effective in brittle materials such as cast iron, where spiral flutes can induce chipping. It is a direct fit for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills using standard straight-shank toolholding.
Designed for use in straight-shank drill chucks and collet holders on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and milling machines. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron, hardened steel, and steel; secondary application includes other hardened materials.
Install and remove drill bits only with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the chuck or collet is torqued to the toolholder specification before starting the cut. Solid carbide is brittle — avoid side-loading, interrupted cuts without proper feeds and speeds, or dropping the bit on hard surfaces. Verify spindle runout is within acceptable limits before running tight-tolerance holes.
