The SGS 56124 is a straight-flute solid carbide drill bit designed for high-precision drilling in ferrous and hardened materials. Built from micrograin carbide and left bright with no coating, this bit delivers consistent cutting performance where coated tools may not be suitable. The 140-degree standard point geometry reduces thrust and centers the bit quickly, while the web-thinned construction lowers cutting resistance at entry. At 0.375 inches in diameter with a 3.125-inch overall length and 1.8125-inch flute length, this is a compact, rigid tool suited for controlled-depth applications. It is a right-hand cutting, two-flute design conforming to DIN 6539.
The SGS 56124 is used in machining and metalworking environments where cast iron, steel, and hardened steel are the primary workpiece materials. Its straight-flute geometry is preferred when chip evacuation needs to be managed carefully, particularly in through-hole and blind-hole applications in production or maintenance machining. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports drilling up to 1.453 inches deep per pass. Machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and industrial maintenance technicians working with VMCs, drill presses, or CNC turning centers are the typical end users of this tool.
Designed for use in cast iron, steel, and hardened steel workpieces. Primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer are cast iron, hardened steel, and steel; secondary listed material is hardened materials. Verify spindle speed, feed rate, and coolant strategy against machine and workpiece requirements before use.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance professional familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a compatible collet or drill chuck rated for the 0.375-inch shank diameter before operation. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool, so external coolant or cutting fluid should be applied as appropriate for the workpiece material. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use, as solid carbide is brittle and sensitive to impact or side-loading.
