The SGS 56118 is a straight-flute solid carbide drill bit designed for high-precision drilling in ferrous and hardened materials. Built to DIN 6539 standards, it features a 140-degree point angle with web thinning for improved centering and reduced thrust on entry. The bit is manufactured from micrograin carbide and left uncoated, making it well-suited for applications where coating adhesion or heat buildup are not primary concerns. The 9/32-inch diameter (0.2812 inches decimal) cuts right-hand with two flutes and a standard point geometry. Licensed HVAC, machining, and general trade professionals install this bit using standard drill presses or CNC equipment.
This drill bit is intended for use in cast iron, hardened steel, general steel, and other hardened materials in both production and maintenance machining environments. With a flute-to-diameter ratio of 3xD, it handles chip evacuation efficiently in moderate-depth holes. The 1.5-inch flute length accommodates a maximum drilling depth of 1.203 inches, suitable for through-holes and blind holes in typical workpiece thicknesses encountered in industrial and trade settings.
Designed as an OEM-style straight-flute carbide drill bit for use in standard drill chucks and CNC tool holders accepting a 0.2812-inch shank diameter, consistent with Series 106 tooling specifications.
This bit is installed by machinists and trade professionals using drill presses, CNC machining centers, or compatible hand-held equipment with appropriate chuck capacity. Ensure the machine spindle and chuck are clean and properly tightened before operation. When drilling hardened or abrasive materials, verify that spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for carbide tooling to avoid edge chipping. Inspect the cutting edge for wear or micro-fractures before each use, as carbide is brittle and susceptible to breakage under improper feed conditions.
