The SGS 56114 is a straight-flute solid carbide die drill bit engineered for precision drilling in demanding ferrous materials. Built to DIN 6539 standards, this bit features a 140-degree point angle with web thinning for reduced thrust and cleaner entry. The cutting body is machined from micrograin carbide and left uncoated, making it well suited for applications where coating adhesion or contamination is a concern. With a 0.2188-inch diameter and a 2.375-inch overall length, this is a compact, rigid tool intended for tight-tolerance work in die and mold environments. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users.
The SGS 56114 is designed for drilling cast iron, hardened steel, and general steel workpieces in tool room, die shop, and production machining settings. The straight-flute geometry is preferred when chip control is critical or when drilling through gummy or interrupted cuts where a spiral flute may grab. Maximum drilling depth is 1 inch, keeping it in the range of standard die-drilling operations. The Series 106 designation places it within SGS's dedicated die drill lineup.
Designed as a straight-shank die drill bit for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills equipped with standard collet or chuck toolholding rated for 0.2188-inch shank diameters. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, hardened steel, and steel; secondary applications include hardened materials.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling. Ensure the shank is fully seated and properly clamped in the toolholder before operation. Carbide tooling is brittle — avoid side loads, interrupted cuts beyond the tool's design range, or re-chucking a visibly chipped flute. Always confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and tool diameter before engaging the cut.
