The SGS 56107 is a straight-flute solid carbide drill bit designed for precision drilling in ferrous and hardened materials. Built to DIN 6539 standards, it features a 140-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned geometry that reduces thrust and improves chip clearance at entry. The 7/64-inch diameter (0.1094 inches decimal) is ground from micrograin carbide stock, providing edge retention and dimensional stability under high-speed cutting conditions. With a bright, uncoated finish, this bit is suited for applications where coating adhesion or heat buildup from a surface treatment is not desired. Two right-hand flutes and a 13/16-inch flute length support efficient swarf evacuation in short-to-medium depth holes.
This drill bit is used in production and maintenance machining of cast iron, steel, and hardened steel workpieces. The straight-flute design is particularly well suited for drilling brittle materials such as cast iron, where a conventional spiral flute could cause chipping or breakout at the exit. It fits standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.1094-inch shank diameter. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and precision maintenance mechanics are the typical end users. Maximum drilling depth is 0.656 inches, making it appropriate for short blind holes and through-holes in thin-to-medium section workpieces.
Designed as an OEM-style tooling replacement for straight-flute carbide drill applications in 7/64-inch diameter. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, steel, and hardened steel. Secondary application covers hardened materials per supplier specification.
This bit is installed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard drill press, CNC machining center, or hand drill with an appropriate chuck or collet rated for carbide tooling. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are secure before beginning the cut to prevent bit deflection or breakage. Carbide is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without proper feed control, and impact conditions that would be acceptable with high-speed steel tooling. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable machine tool operating procedures when handling small-diameter carbide bits.
