The SGS 56058 is a straight-flute drill bit designed for precision drilling in ferrous and hardened materials. Built from micrograin solid carbide and left uncoated, it delivers consistent performance in cast iron, hardened steel, and standard steel workpieces. The bit measures 0.0420 inches in diameter with a 140-degree standard point angle, which reduces thrust and improves centering on entry. Overall length is 1.5 inches with a 0.5-inch flute length. Web thinning is applied to further reduce cutting resistance. This drill bit is suited for machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance professionals working with tight-tolerance small-diameter holes.
The SGS 56058 fits production drilling, jig boring, and precision maintenance applications where small wire-gauge holes are required in hard or abrasive materials. The Series 106 designation follows DIN 6539 standards, making it appropriate for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual operations. Primary target materials include cast iron, hardened steel, and general steel. Secondary workpiece suitability extends to other hardened materials. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional spindle rotation. Coolant-through capability is not available on this bit.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use drill bit for wire-gauge drilling applications requiring a Number 58 size hole in cast iron, hardened steel, or steel workpieces per DIN 6539 Series 106 specifications.
This bit is intended for use by machinists and toolroom technicians familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Secure the shank firmly in a collet or drill chuck rated for the 0.0420-inch shank diameter before operation. Carbide tooling is brittle and susceptible to chipping under side load or impact — avoid using in hammer-drill or flex-shaft setups. Always verify spindle runout is within tolerance before drilling to prevent premature breakage at this diameter.
