The SGS 56056 is a solid micrograin carbide straight-flute drill bit designed for precision drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Built to DIN 6539 standards, it carries a wire size of 56, with a decimal diameter of 0.0465 inches and a 140-degree standard point angle for improved centering and reduced thrust. The web-thinned point further lowers entry force on tough workpieces. With an overall length of 1.5 inches and a 0.5-inch flute length, this is a compact bit suited for controlled, short-hole applications where rigidity and accuracy are priorities. Right-hand cutting direction is standard. No coating is applied, leaving the carbide substrate exposed for direct heat transfer and easy wear inspection.
This bit is suited for drilling cast iron, hardened steel, and general steel in production machining, tool and die work, and precision fabrication environments. The straight-flute geometry is preferred when chip evacuation is less critical than rigidity and hole straightness, particularly in short-hole drilling of brittle or hard materials. A 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports drilling depths up to 0.406 inches. Machinists and toolmakers working with small-diameter holes in ferrous and hardened materials will find this bit appropriate for CNC machining centers and manual drill press operations alike.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use drill bit for applications requiring a wire gauge 56 diameter straight-flute carbide drill in DIN 6539 Series 106 tooling setups.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or toolmakers familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Secure the bit in a collet or drill chuck rated for the shank diameter of 0.0465 inches before operation. Carbide tooling is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed reduction, or impacts that can cause chipping. Verify spindle runout is within acceptable tolerance before use to protect the tight diameter tolerance of this bit.
