The SGS 56036 is a solid carbide straight-flute drill bit designed for precision drilling in ferrous and hardened materials. Built to DIN 6539 standards, this bit carries a 140-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned geometry that reduces thrust and improves chip clearance at entry. The cutting diameter is 0.1065 inches (Wire Size 36), with an overall length of 1.8125 inches and a flute length of 0.8125 inches. The micrograin carbide construction and bright uncoated finish make it well suited for applications where coating compatibility or re-sharpening is a consideration. Two right-hand flutes provide efficient chip evacuation in short-depth holes.
This drill bit is intended for use in cast iron, steel, and hardened steel workpieces, as well as other hardened materials. It is commonly used in precision machining, toolroom work, and maintenance environments where tight-tolerance holes are required in hard or abrasive stock. The Series 106 designation places it in SGS's straight-flute carbide line, which is optimized for materials that tend to cause chatter or deflection with standard twist geometry. Maximum drilling depth is 0.656 inches, making it appropriate for through-holes and shallow blind holes in the applicable material range.
Designed for use in cast iron, steel, hardened steel, and hardened materials. Suitable for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual toolroom equipment capable of holding a 0.1065-inch straight shank.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Ensure the spindle and collet or chuck are clean and properly trued before seating the shank, as runout directly affects tool life at this diameter. Carbide is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts beyond the tool's rated capacity, or dropping the bit on hard surfaces. Always verify the workpiece is rigidly fixtured and the machine is set to an appropriate feed and speed for the workpiece material before beginning the cut.
