The SGS 56027 is a straight-flute solid carbide drill bit designed for precision drilling in ferrous and hardened materials. Built to DIN 6539 standards, it features a 140-degree standard point angle with web thinning to reduce thrust and improve chip evacuation at entry. The micrograin carbide construction provides the hardness and wear resistance needed for production drilling in cast iron, hardened steel, and alloy steels. At 0.1440 inches in diameter (Wire Size 27) with a 1-inch flute length and an overall length of 2.0625 inches, this bit fits standard drill chucks and CNC machining centers. Right-hand cutting direction. Uncoated bright finish. Intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in shop or field environments.
The SGS 56027 is suited for drilling cast iron, hardened steel, and hardened materials in both production and maintenance machining applications. The straight-flute geometry is particularly effective in brittle materials such as cast iron where chip fragmentation is the norm and spiral flute evacuation is less critical. Typical install scenarios include manual drill press work, CNC machining centers, and precision toolroom operations where tight diameter tolerances are required. Maximum recommended drilling depth is 0.797 inches, consistent with a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use straight-flute carbide drill bit for applications involving cast iron, hardened steel, and hardened materials. Primary workpiece materials listed by manufacturer: Cast Iron, Hardened Steel, Steel. Secondary workpiece material: Hardened Materials.
Installation and use of carbide drill bits should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with cutting tool selection and machine setup. Power down and lock out any drilling equipment before installing or removing the bit from the chuck or collet. Carbide tooling is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without proper setup, or impact conditions that can cause chipping or fracture. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and drill diameter before starting a cut.
