The SGS 56023 is a straight-flute solid carbide drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hardened materials. Built to DIN 6539 standards, it carries a 140-degree standard point angle with web thinning to reduce thrust and improve chip evacuation. The micrograin carbide construction provides the edge retention and rigidity needed for cast iron, hardened steel, and general steel applications. At 0.1540 inches in diameter (Wire Size 23) with a 1-inch flute length and an overall length of 2.0625 inches, this bit is sized for precision work in tight-clearance drilling scenarios. It ships uncoated and is intended for right-hand cutting operation.
This drill bit is suited for machining and fabrication environments where hardened or abrasive workpiece materials demand a carbide tool. Typical applications include toolroom work, production drilling in steel and cast iron components, and secondary operations on hardened materials. Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with carbide tooling. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in a properly sized collet or chuck before beginning operations. Carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts at high feed rates, or dropping the bit on hard surfaces. Always confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter before engaging the cut.
