The SGS 56016 is a solid carbide, straight-flute drill bit designed for precision drilling in ferrous and hardened materials. Built to DIN 6539 standards, it carries a wire size of 16 (0.1770 inches diameter) and features a 140-degree standard point angle with web thinning for reduced thrust and cleaner entry. The flute length is 1.125 inches and the overall length is 2.1875 inches. The uncoated, bright finish is suited to applications where coating adhesion or heat buildup is not the primary concern. This bit is installed by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and maintenance technicians working with CNC or manual drilling equipment.
The SGS 56016 is intended for drilling cast iron, steel, and hardened steel in both production and maintenance environments. Its micrograin carbide construction supports use in harder workpiece materials where high-speed steel tooling would wear prematurely. The straight-flute geometry makes it particularly effective in brittle materials such as cast iron where chip control and flute evacuation differ from ductile metals. It is suited to short, controlled-depth holes up to a maximum drilling depth of 0.906 inches.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and CNC toolholders accepting a 0.177-inch shank. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron, steel, and hardened steel. Secondary workpiece material is hardened materials.
This tool is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians using CNC machining centers, drill presses, or manual drilling equipment. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet to the recommended grip depth to prevent pullout during drilling. Do not exceed the maximum drilling depth of 0.906 inches per pass without retracting to clear chips, particularly when working in cast iron.
