The SGS 53020 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit in wire gauge size No. 20, with a decimal diameter of 0.1610 inches. Built from micrograin solid carbide with a bright uncoated finish, it features a 150-degree split point and three regular spiral flutes for fast chip evacuation and accurate hole entry. The overall length is 2.5 inches with a flute length of 1.375 inches. It is designed for high-performance drilling in demanding shop and field environments and is typically installed by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and metalworking trade professionals requiring tight-tolerance holes in hard materials.
The SGS 53020 is suited for drilling cast iron, hardened steel, non-ferrous metals, and general-purpose steel. The web-thinned, tapered web design reduces thrust force at the tip, making it effective in both CNC machining centers and manual drill press applications. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. It is appropriate for production runs and precision maintenance work where carbide durability and dimensional accuracy are required.
Designed as a general-purpose solid carbide jobber drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.1610-inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual drilling equipment across metalworking applications involving cast iron, hardened steel, non-ferrous metal, and steel workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or metalworking technicians. Ensure the drill chuck is clean and fully tightened before operation to prevent shank slippage that can fracture carbide. Carbide drill bits are brittle and must not be used in hand-held cordless drills or in applications involving lateral loading. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling, in accordance with applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures.
