The SGS 51536 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. Built to Series 135L specifications, it features a 145-degree point angle optimized for entry into hard and abrasive workpiece materials without walking. The AlTiN (Ti-NAMITE-A) coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life in dry or minimum-quantity lubrication applications. With a 17/32 inch (0.5313 inch) cutting diameter, a regular spiral flute configuration, and a right-hand cut, this bit suits precision drilling operations where tool life and hole quality are critical. Licensed tradespeople and machining professionals in metalworking and fabrication shops are the primary users.
This drill bit is engineered for use in titanium alloys and other temperature-resistant alloys where standard HSS or cobalt tooling underperforms. The 145-degree point geometry reduces thrust force and improves chip evacuation in these tough materials. The straight cylindrical shank with a 0.6250 inch diameter fits standard drill chucks and tool holders commonly found in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and handheld drilling equipment used in aerospace, HVAC equipment fabrication, and industrial maintenance applications. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and web-thinned, tapered web configuration support consistent chip flow during deeper passes.
Designed for drilling titanium and temperature-resistant alloys as specified by SGS Series 135L tooling. Fits standard drill chucks and collet-style tool holders accepting a 0.6250 inch straight shank. No coolant-through capability; intended for external coolant or dry cutting applications.
Install and remove this bit only with the machine spindle fully stopped and the power source locked out. Confirm the chuck or collet is rated for the 0.6250 inch shank diameter before clamping. Do not exceed the maximum drilling depth of 2.5938 inches per pass without retracting to clear chips. Solid carbide tooling is brittle and susceptible to breakage from side loading or interrupted cuts; use rigid setups and avoid flex in the workholding system.
