The SGS 51527 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials including titanium and temperature-resistant alloys. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with AlTiN (Ti-NAMITE-A) finish, this bit delivers the heat resistance and edge retention needed when cutting hard, abrasive workpiece materials. It features a 145-degree split point with web thinning for self-centering entry, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on difficult surfaces. The 25/64 inch (0.3906 inch) diameter and 4 inch overall length place it in the standard jobber range, making it a practical choice for machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals working with exotic metals.
The SGS 51527 is suited for production and maintenance drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous hard alloys, including titanium and temperature-resistant alloys. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and 2-13/32 inch flute length support chip evacuation in moderate-depth holes up to 2-1/8 inch maximum drilling depth. The straight cylindrical shank at 1/2 inch diameter seats in standard drill chucks and collet holders. This bit is a Series 135L tool, optimized for applications where tool life and dimensional accuracy are priorities. No coolant-through capability; use external coolant when drilling at elevated speeds.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and handheld drilling equipment with a 1/2 inch or larger chuck or collet. Primary workpiece materials are titanium and temperature-resistant alloys. Series 135L designation within the SGS product line.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with carbide tooling requirements. Ensure the spindle and chuck or collet are clean and within runout tolerances before seating the shank, as carbide bits are more brittle than high-speed steel and sensitive to eccentric loading. Do not use this bit without external coolant or lubrication when drilling titanium or hard alloys at elevated feed rates, as heat buildup accelerates edge wear. Inspect the cutting edge before each use; carbide chipping is not repairable and a damaged bit should be replaced.
