The SGS 51354 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit sized to Letter U (0.3680 inches diameter) and designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. It features a 145-degree notched point angle that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation on entry. The AlTiN coating — marketed as Ti-NAMITE-A — provides thermal resistance and extended tool life in abrasive and hard alloy applications. At 3.5 inches overall length, this short-series bit delivers rigidity and reduced runout in production drilling setups. It is typically installed in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machine applications by machinists and tool-room technicians.
This bit is suited for drilling alloy steels and titanium alloys where heat generation and tool wear are primary concerns. The screw machine length format makes it a fit for close-clearance fixtures and high-cycle production environments. The 145-degree split point and web-thinned, tapered web geometry reduce walking on entry without requiring a pilot hole in most setups. The straight shank accepts standard drill chucks and collet holders sized for the 0.3750-inch shank diameter.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machine setups accepting a 0.3750-inch straight shank. Intended for drilling alloy steels and titanium as noted in the manufacturer specifications.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the spindle fully de-energized and locked out per applicable machine guarding procedures. Secure the straight shank fully within the chuck or collet to the recommended grip depth before operation. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for chipping or wear before each use, as solid carbide is brittle and susceptible to damage from side loading or interrupted cuts. Consult applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines for speeds, feeds, and coolant practices appropriate to the workpiece material.
