The SGS 51337 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metal-cutting applications. Built from solid carbide with a Ti-NAMITE-A AlTiN coating, it delivers exceptional hardness and heat resistance at the cutting zone. The 145-degree notched point geometry reduces thrust and improves self-centering on hard materials. At 2-5/8 inches overall length with a 1-inch flute length, the stubby profile minimizes deflection and runout, making it well-suited for precision hole work in CNC machining centers and drill press operations. A licensed machinist or tooling professional is the typical end user for this series.
The SGS 51337 is intended for drilling alloy steels and titanium alloys, materials that demand rigid, wear-resistant tooling. The screw machine length format is standard in production environments where short overhangs and tight tolerances are required. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and web-thinned, tapered web configuration support chip evacuation and reduce cutting forces in tough materials. It is sold individually and suited to both manual and CNC drilling setups where a 0.25-inch straight shank is compatible with the tool holder.
Designed for use with standard straight-shank tool holders accepting a 0.25-inch shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer are alloy steel and titanium. Part of the SGS Series 135 product line for screw machine length carbide drill bits in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 decimal inch diameter range.
This drill bit is installed by machinists or tooling technicians in CNC machining centers, manual drill presses, or turret lathes. Ensure the tool holder collet or chuck is clean and properly torqued before use. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; external coolant or mist lubrication is recommended when drilling titanium or high-alloy steel. Inspect the cutting edge for wear or chipping before each use, as carbide tooling can fracture if run with a damaged edge or in an undersized holder.
