The SGS 51080 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit in No. 80 wire size (0.0135 inch / 0.34 mm diameter) designed for precision drilling in composite materials and other demanding workpiece applications. Ground from micrograin carbide stock, it features a 118-degree faceted point, a web-thinned and tapered web configuration, and a two-flute right-hand spiral to promote clean chip evacuation. Overall length is 0.75 inches with a flute length of 0.1875 inches. The straight-cylindrical shank diameter matches the bit diameter at 0.0135 inch for direct chuck mounting. Diameter tolerance is held to -0.0005 to 0.0000 inch for repeatable, on-size holes.
The SGS 51080 is suited for small-diameter drilling operations where carbide rigidity is required to maintain straightness in composite laminates, circuit board materials, or similarly abrasive substrates. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports depth capability relative to bit size. Series 101 construction and DIN 338 compliance make it a recognized standard in precision machining and maintenance shops. It is sold individually and is appropriate for use in CNC drill presses, precision bench drill presses, and hand-held precision drilling fixtures where runout is controlled.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use solid carbide jobber drill bit for No. 80 wire gauge applications; compatible with any precision drill chuck or collet system accepting a 0.0135-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Install and service by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians. Secure the shank fully in a precision collet or drill chuck rated for the shank diameter before operation. At this diameter, runout must be minimized to prevent bit deflection or breakage - verify spindle and chuck concentricity before drilling. Do not exceed manufacturer-recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material.
