The SGS 51077 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit in wire gauge size 77, with a decimal diameter of 0.0180 inches (0.46 mm). Built from micrograin solid carbide with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers the hardness and edge retention needed for drilling composite materials and other demanding substrates. The 118-degree faceted point with web thinning promotes accurate entry and reduces thrust at startup. With a 3/4-inch overall length and a regular right-hand spiral flute, the 51077 is suited for precision work in tight-clearance applications where controlled chip evacuation matters.
This bit is designed for use in applications requiring very small-diameter, high-precision holes, particularly in composite materials. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and two-flute regular spiral geometry make it appropriate for CNC drilling operations and manual precision work in aerospace, electronics, and industrial fabrication environments. Its straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard collets and drill chucks accepting 0.0180-inch shank diameters. The Series 101 designation follows DIN 338 standards, placing it within a recognized category for jobber-length drill geometry.
Designed as a jobber-length drill bit for use in standard collet systems and drill chucks accepting a 0.0180-inch straight cylindrical shank. Rated for composite as the primary workpiece material per manufacturer specification.
Install and removal of small-diameter carbide drill bits should be performed by a machinist or qualified technician using a properly sized collet or chuck to avoid lateral stress on the shank. Carbide is brittle and will fracture under side-loading or if dropped - handle with care during setup. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and de-energized before changing tooling. Do not exceed manufacturer-recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material, as carbide bits at this diameter are highly susceptible to breakage from excessive feed rate.
